The Village of Cargill, once a booming logging town, comes alive each summer for visitors with train tours, blacksmith demonstrations, hand-painted cutouts depicting lumberjacks and other historic characters, and a new pop-up artisan market called Margaret’s Mercantile, which features unique pieces from local crafters. Stop by the Visitor Centre to learn more the lumber industry that thrived here under Henry Cargill, and the making of the town that bore his name. The visitor centre includes old-fashioned wooden toys for kids, plus information about the Greenock Swamp and other attractions in the region. It’s run by Saugeen Valley Conservation and open five days a week in summer, from Wednesday to Sunday until early September.
